The Albertine Book Club Reads Balzac’s “The Lily in The Valley”

On Tuesday, September 17, at 6pm, the Albertine Book club will discuss a story of impossible and unsatisfied desire, The Lily in The Valley by Honoré de Balzac(NYRB Classic, trans by Peter Bush).

The Lily in the Valley is a terrible fairy tale of two people lost in a game of love—or is it? Peter Bush’s new translation brings out the psychological dynamics of one of Balzac’s masterpieces.

Albertine members will receive an invitation by email.

Moderated by Albertine staff, the Albertine Book Club is open to Albertine members only. For more information on how to become an Albertine member, click here. Though Albertine members are welcome to speak either in French or in English, a strong command of the French language is recommended to attend.
