In May, The Albertine Book Club will read On The Clock by Claire Baglain, translated by Jordan Stump, New Directions.

On The Clock packs a family saga, a penetrating picture of social inequality, and a coming-of-age story into a compact tale told in two alternating strands. A marvelous debut, this tender and painful portrait of French working-class life finds shards of poetry inside the twin hardships of poverty and service work.

The conversation will be moderated by Miriam Gordis. Albertine members will receive an invitation by email.
